Verónica Restrepo is an architectural designer, researcher, and studio instructor at the University of Washington. Her work focuses on socially and culturally sensitive design, particularly how housing and zoning shape access and opportunity in cities.
During her graduate studies, she earned a certificate in urban design and completed an M Arch thesis examining Seattle's exclusionary zoning practices. She examined Seattle's minimum lot sizes, parking minimums, and density restrictions, and their role in perpetuating racial and economic segregation. Recognizing that restructuring zoning policies is both a racial justice and climate justice issue, her research explored how increasing housing density and diversity could expand accessibility and affordability, while centering community voices to prevent displacement. Her design approach is grounded in this research, viewing the built environment as a record of choices and design as a tool for shaping more equitable futures. Across both her practice and teaching, Verónica emphasizes social, cultural, and environmental equity through design.
Outside of work, Verónica spends time at Volunteer Park in Seattle with her poodle. She loves to travel to Colombia to visit family and spend time on their farm in the Andes. Whether at home or abroad, she's always interested in tasting new food and finding her next favorite restaurant.
