Project: The Dragonfly Ridge Residence

Architect: Upward Architecture & Interiors

Location: Skagit, WA

Status: Under Construction, Completion Summer 2026

The Dragonfly Ridge Residence is a net-zero energy home on a 20-acre site in Skagit County, Washington, overlooking the Skagit Valley and Padilla Bay. It is designed as an intergenerational residence and a demonstration of sustainable building and land stewardship. The previously clear-cut site is being restored through regenerative land management practices.

The home is organized as a cluster of buildings to maximize solar access, reduce wind exposure, and frame views. The program includes a main house structure, a primary wing structure, and a small caretaker’s apartment.

The design follows Passive House principles, with an airtight, highly insulated envelope, triple-pane windows, and heat recovery ventilation. Net-zero energy is supported by PV panels, battery storage, and heat pump systems. A 33,000-gallon cistern supports rainwater collection and conservation.

Materials include low-carbon concrete, FSC-certified lumber, and charred cedar siding. The project integrates durable construction, efficient systems, and site-responsive planning to support long-term performance and reduced environmental impact.

Veronica was involved in the project from early design through construction. Her work focused on SD development, including massing studies exploring how the form responds to site and climate. She participated in design charrettes to develop and resolve the design. She produced exterior and interior renderings, client presentations, window studies, permit site plan drawings, and presentation drawings including floor plans and exterior elevations. For academic documentation purposes, she also created the open house flyer and project booklet for Kriegh Architecture Studios on this project.
